Do you enjoy DIY, but feel that making a garden bench is a bit too much of a chore? Then take a look at our extremely popular garden bench legs. That mega-job suddenly becomes a breeze and very satisfying too!
We like everyone to be able to develop their own style, which is why at MaximaVida you will also find items you can use to get started yourself. Here, we would like to show you how to make your own bench or table with our table and garden bench legs. But we especially invite you to put your own twist on it!
Before you start any DIY work, it is important to know what style garden bench you want to make. If you live in a stylish 1930s house, then a Jordaan gable bench might be the best option on your facade. But if your garden is behind a modern house in a Vinex location, a sturdy bench with metal New York legs will fit much better.
In addition, the choice of material is important. Do you opt for circular and go for used wood or do you opt for new wood? Who knows, maybe you still have some nice planks left over that you can nicely use for that garden bench in front of the door!
Do you want the whole family to be able to sit on the sofa, or is a two-seater sofa for the house enough? In general, the rule of thumb is quite simple: you need about 50 cm per seat per person. If the people who will be using the bench are a bit larger, you could use 60 cm per seat.
So a bench 120 cm long is suitable for two large people to sit on. In addition, the seat height is extremely important for sitting comfort. Make sure your seat is at least 45 cm high. If you are a bit taller, you should stick to about 48 cm.
Your own bench in no time!
The best-selling garden bench legs in our range are the New York bench legs, and for good reason. The modern design makes these matt black-coated legs suitable for a garden bench to match almost any home. For a nice robust garden bench, you could use the beam size 4.5 cm x 14 cm. In this case, you need 6 beams for both the seat and the back.
You can choose the length yourself up to approx. 300 cm, after which it is wise to place an extra leg underneath. The legs come with 12 stainless steel wood screws to fasten the beams.
Want to know how this works in practice? Here, ‘Evert makes’ a bench especially for us with our New York bench legs!
Self-made garden benches
The great pride of our range! The cast-iron bench legs of garden bench Prinsengracht are cast by hand in our own cast-iron moulds. Beautiful bench for 1930s houses, stately monumental buildings and nostalgic city gardens
Although rust is generally seen as a sign of decay, in cast iron it actually adds an aesthetic element. Many people appreciate the weathered, rusty look of cast iron objects, especially in outdoor settings. This natural oxidation process creates a patina that evokes a nostalgic and vintage feel.
The bench frames are coated with a standard black paint but may already have some dots of rust on receipt. If you don't want rust on your cast iron bench legs, you can easily touch them up or completely repaint them with a metal paint upon receipt.
For a bench 125 cm wide, you will need the following wood :
1 x back 120 cm x 16 cm x 2.5 cm and 3 x seat 120 cm x 11 cm x 2.5 cm. You could opt for chic oak but of course you can also use beautiful spruce boards that you give a colour. The legs come without screws.
So get off the bench and make your own garden bench. You will see that making it yourself gives you a satisfaction that cannot be compared to buying a ready-made bench. Especially not if you also use circular or recycled wood!
